Special Statement: Conference updates regarding COVID-19

We have been working diligently on our plans for our first hybrid event, Walk/Bike/Places 2021, so that we can bring you the best, safest, and most sensible options as a result of the complications posed by COVID-19. As a participant, you have the option of joining us online or attending in-person. Our conference venue in Indianapolis, the Convention Center, continuously updates our team on their Covid-19 guidance, and the venue has already been successfully hosting large events safely in their spaces since August 2020.

Guidelines are changing constantly, but what we can assure is you about the in-person event is that:

- We will require everyone to wear masks indoors at all times during the event, on Mobile Workshops, and on any shared transportation.

- At our outdoor social events we encourage all participants to wear masks and stay 6 ft apart when in groups.

- We will provide “to-go” style lunches on Wednesday and Thursday, where you will have the option to eat indoors or outdoors at public spaces.

- Masks and hand sanitizer will be available in your goody bag and throughout the event for easy access.

- Depending on updated guidelines, we may have a simple daily health check in place for attendees to ensure that everyone is feeling well.

- The Convention Center has thorough cleaning protocols in place for meeting rooms and bathrooms, and upgraded air filters. Read more here to learn about their protocols.

- Seating in any rooms we use will be limited and spaced 6 feet apart.

If you are planning to attend in-person please review our COVID-19 Liability and Release Terms and Conditions.

What is Walk/Bike/Places?

Walk/Bike/Places is the premier conference in North America for walking, bicycling and placemaking professionals from the public and private sectors.

Our conference was founded on the belief that greater access to walking and bicycling will create healthier individuals, cohesive neighborhoods, and vibrant communities. To think, first we started with a hundred idealistic cyclists in 1980 and called ourselves Pro Bike. In 2012, under the stewardship of Project for Public Spaces, we added the final piece: Place. Now we meet every two years for three days and have grown over 10-fold in our 30+ year history.

When and where is the conference held?

The conference will be held on June 15-18, 2021 both online and at the Indianapolis Convention Center + other locations around the city.

For general information about the conference, please reach out to us at: program@walkbikeplaces.org

How can I find out more about the program?

In the event of cancellation or over-subscription to the conference, Project for Public Spaces' may retain a portion of the registration fee to cover damages it has incurred.

Will you offer scholarships?

Our scholarship application has now closed.

Weren't you called "Pro-Something or other?"

We were, however; we prefer the simplicity and clarity afforded by Walk/Bike/Places. We have not forgotten our past and the glory of Pro Walk/Pro Bike/Pro Place, a conference that began in earnest in 1980 as Pro Bike. Read more about our conference history here.

Who is planning this event?

The conference is produced by Project for Public Spaces, a non-for-profit with offices in New York City, and support from our local partners including Big Car Collaborative and the City of Indianapolis.
