Special Statement: Conference updates regarding COVID-19

We have been working diligently on our plans for our first hybrid event, Walk/Bike/Places 2021, so that we can bring you the best, safest, and most sensible options as a result of the complications posed by COVID-19. As a participant, you have the option of joining us online or attending in-person. Our conference venue in Indianapolis, the Convention Center, continuously updates our team on their Covid-19 guidance, and the venue has already been successfully hosting large events safely in their spaces since August 2020.

If you are planning to attend in-person please review our COVID-19 Liability and Release Terms and Conditions.

What is Walk/Bike/Places?

Walk/Bike/Places is the premier conference in North America for walking, bicycling and placemaking professionals from the public and private sectors.

Our conference was founded on the belief that greater access to walking and bicycling will create healthier individuals, cohesive neighborhoods, and vibrant communities. To think, first we started with a hundred idealistic cyclists in 1980 and called ourselves Pro Bike. In 2012, under the stewardship of Project for Public Spaces, we added the final piece: Place. Now we meet every two years for three days and have grown over 10-fold in our 30+ year history.

When and where is the conference held?

The conference will be held on June 15-18, 2021 both online and at the Indianapolis Convention Center + other locations around the city.

For general information about the conference, please reach out to us at: program@walkbikeplaces.org

How can I find out more about the program?

Walk/Bike/Places offers a wide range of breakout sessions, posters, special workshops, and general sessions. Program details will start being released in March 2021.

You can review 2020's program here as a reference for your planning needs, and to see the range of content we feature.

When will the Call for Proposals open?

The Call for Proposals has now closed. We thank all of those who submitted proposals and we will notify applicants of their status in March 2021.

If you have any questions about a session, or presenting, please email the conference planning team at: program@walkbikeplaces.org

When does registration open?

Early registration is now open! The deadline for an early rate ticket is March 29. We will not extend the deadline.

Be sure to join our mailing list for the most-up-to-date information regarding our conference. You will be first to know about:

(1) Registration deadlines;
(2) Program announcements;
(3) Mobile Workshop updates;
(4) Exciting opportunities for complementary conference workshops and events.

What is your cancellation policy?

Conference registrations will be able to be transferred or cancelled by May 15 (general registrations) or May 31 (online registrations) minus a $25 admin fee. No refunds will be made in the event of a no-show. In the event of cancellation or over-subscription to the conference, Project for Public Spaces' may retain a portion of the registration fee to cover damages it has incurred.

Will you offer scholarships?

You can find our scholarship application here. This year's application is for a Pay What You Can option, and the deadline to apply is March 29.

Weren't you called "Pro-Something or other?"

We were, however; we prefer the simplicity and clarity afforded by Walk/Bike/Places. We have not forgotten our past and the glory of Pro Walk/Pro Bike/Pro Place, a conference that began in earnest in 1980 as Pro Bike. Read more about our conference history here.

Who is planning this event?

The conference is produced by Project for Public Spaces, a non-for-profit with offices in New York City, and support from our local partners including Big Car Collaborative and the City of Indianapolis.
